Who it’s for

Distance educationor home education?

Both happen at the kitchen table. In Years 11 and 12 they lead to different places, so here is what fits each.

Distance education

Your student is enrolled with a school or distance education provider that sets the assessment, marks it and reports results. They complete the same QCAA senior assessment as any other Queensland student.

Registered home education

Families register with the Department of Education’s Home Education Unit and plan their own program. It does not by itself involve school-issued QCAA assessment or lead to an ATAR.

You don’t need to know the subject to be useful. Three habits make the difference for most families.

Keep the task documents together

The task sheet, the ISMG, the due dates and any draft instructions. Most questions about a task are answered somewhere in that pile.

Ask your student to explain the task

What do they need to show, and where does the ISMG describe it? Saying it out loud shows them what they have and haven’t covered yet.

Work on one criterion at a time

Pick the criterion with the most room to improve, find the evidence already in the draft, and let your student decide what to change.

QCE study group

Classmates,even when school is at home

Distance education can mean studying with nobody else in the room. The free QCE study group gives every General and Applied subject its own room, where Queensland students ask questions, share what’s helping and prepare for exams together.

  • Moderated by the ISMGenius team, who review every report

Draft feedback

A second readerfor every draft

Upload the draft and the task’s ISMG. ISMGenius reads the work against each criterion, estimates the mark band, shows the evidence it found and sets out what to improve before the next draft. It never writes the assignment.

The first report needs no account. Free use has limits and some features need a paid plan. Results are estimates, and your school or provider’s AI policy comes first.

FAQ

Questions from parents

Is it free?
The guides, both calculators and the QCE study group are free, and the guides and calculators need no account. Draft feedback has free and paid plans. The first report needs no account, free use has limits, and some features need a paid plan.
Does ISMGenius write assignments?
No. It reads a draft your student has already written, compares it with the task’s ISMG and explains what to improve. The ideas, the writing and every change stay theirs. How ISMGenius fits with academic integrity.
Is AI feedback allowed on school assessment?
That is up to your student’s school or distance education provider, so check their AI policy before using feedback on assessed work. If the answer is no, the guides, calculators and study group are still there.
Are the calculator results official?
No. They are estimates to help you plan. Schools mark internal assessment, QCAA confirms those marks and sets the external exams, and QTAC calculates the ATAR.
Is the study group safe for my teenager?
It is moderated by the ISMGenius team, who review every report and can remove posts or pause accounts. There are no private messages. Phone numbers, emails and social handles are blocked before they post, and students choose the name others see. Read the community guidelines.
Does my teenager need my permission to sign up?
Students under 16 need the consent of a parent or guardian to use ISMGenius. Parents can email support@ismgenius.com to access, correct or delete their child’s information.
We are registered home educators. Is any of this useful?
Yes, for understanding the system. The parent guide, glossary and ATAR calculator explain how Queensland senior assessment works, which helps if your teen is weighing up senior subjects. Draft feedback is built around school-issued tasks with an ISMG, so it suits distance education students best.
